EVE has a lot of different missile launchers. At times it may be hard to decide between two launchers. In this article we will discuss some comparisons. We will use the Normal Level I version of all these Launchers and their standard missile.

## Standard Missile vs. Assault Missile vs. RocketsEdit

**Standard Missile Launcher**:

**Summary**: Rockets and Standard Missiles are both meant to take out Frigates and Destroyers. The *Explosion Radius* is how **BIG** the explosion is. The closer the explosion radius is to the signature radius if a ship, the more damage it does. If the Explosion Velocity is smaller than the Signature Radius of the Ship, it cancels out and give full damage. The average signature radius of a frigate is around 40 m.

Example: The explosion radius of a standard missile is 50 m:

The difference between AFSR (Average Frigate Signature Radius) and ER (Explosion Radius) of a Standard Missile is **+10**. The difference between AFSR and ER of a Rocket is -**20**, so since it's smaller then the signature radius, it cancels out and gives full damage. Therefore, when you are taking out Frigates, it's recomended to use Rockets. Destroyers, on the other hand, have a ADSR that is much bigger than both rockets and standard missiles ER, so both will inflict maximum damage. The DPS listed above on both rocket and missile are best case scenario, meaning the signature radius of the ship and missile/rocket match exactly or have less ER then the AFSR.

Now to explain explosion velocity. Explosion velocity is how fast the explosion spreads. Explosion velocity is compared to how fast the ship is that your firing at. If the speed of the ship and the speed of the Explosion velocity match perfectly, Maximum damage occurs. Like Explosion Radius, if the velocity is going faster than a ship, it has no effect and cancels out, and maximum damage occurs.

The speed of a frigate is around 300-400 m/s. The explosion velocity of a standard missile is 170 m/s and a rocket has 85 m/s.

As you can see, there is a **BIG** difference and range in speeds and velocity's, this is why stasis webifing your target is also recommended. Fortuntaly for you, this doesen't effect damage as much as the explosion radius.

**Summary**: Heavy Missiles and Heavy Assault Missiles are both meant to take out Cruisers and BattleCruisers. The average signature radius of a Cruiser is around 135 m.

The difference between ACSR (Average Cruiser Signature Radius) and ER (Explosion Radius) of a Heavy Missile/Heavy Assault Missile is **-10**. The DPS listed above on both missiles are best case scenario.

The average speed of a cruiser is around 175 m/s. The explosion velocity of Heavy missiles are 81 m/s. The explosion velocity of Heavy assault missiles are 101 m/s.

**Summary**: As with the Heavy and Heavy Assault Missiles and Launchers, these 2 are very different. The siege missiles have almost double the dps of the cruise missiles, but they also have extremely short range and are unguided. The cruise missile on the other hand have the longest range of any missile, but also a very low dps compared to the siege missile.
