Mining cruisers: Minmatar Scythe, Caldari Osprey

Modules Edit

How should I outfit that ship?

For the Osprey, recommended fitting is as follows:

High(4): (3) Mining Lasers tech I or II, (1) Standard Missile Launcher

Med(4): Limited, tech II mining lasers will consume most ship resources.

Low(3): (3) Cargo Expanders, or if needed upgades to Powergrid of CPU to allowing proper fitting of mining lasers and missile launcher.

Drones: (4) Light Scout Drones, Hobgoblins are recommended due to their versitile damage type and low purchase cost.

For the Scythe, recommended fitting is as follows:

High(5): (3) Mining Lasers tech I or II, (2) Standard Missile Lauchers

Med(3): Limited, tech II mining lasers will consume most ship resources.

Low(3): (3) Cargo Expanders, or if needed upgades to Powergrid of CPU to allowing proper fitting of mining lasers and missile launcher.

Drones: (1) Light Scout Drone, Hobgoblins are recommended due to their versitile damage type and low purchase cost.

What should I mine?

For the ISK minded miner: look in the market and find the highest buying price for the mineral type "Scordite". It comes in three flavors, regular, condensed, and massive. Once you have found the system with the highest buy price go there and min. This is a way to maximize profits as it cuts down on transport times or sub-premium payment for the minerals you have mined.

Systems Edit

Where should I mine?

The fittings described above will provide enough firepower foreffective defenses in systems with a security rating as low as 0.5. It is not recommended to venture into lower security (0.4 or less) space because, while the NPCs will not be much harder, most player pirates will have little trouble eliminating either ship.

It is however not a uncommon practice to find a less popular low security system where a player pirate presence would be unlikely and mine there. In the event however that player pirates are encountered a tactical retreat is recommended. The most common use for this practice is if the miner is in desperate need of certain ore-types that cannot be found in high security space. This is usually for the purposes of manufacturing or some wild idea that the extra isk will far outweigh the risk. High security is by far the safer choice as you stand little chance of losing your ship there, although it is a tad less exciting. --69.178.59.138 11:28, 8 Dec 2005 (UTC)Vertas
